Lighting and Beyond
The festive season is fast approaching, and with it comes the pressure to have a home that ticks all of the boxes. The lead-up to Christmas might seem like an odd time to think about making any changes to your decor (aside from the obvious, that is!), but it can actually be a great time to breathe new life into your home. Not convinced? Here are some of the ways you can make your home look its best for the festive season and beyond, from pendant lights to changing up your colour scheme.
Lighting
Let’s start with your lighting. You’re going to be thinking about two things this festive season when it comes to how you light your room: cosiness and drama. It might seem like they are two moods that would be hard to get right by investing in just a few key lighting pieces, but we promise you it’s possible. A beautiful pendant light will become the focal point of the room and will look amazing when you are entertaining, whether it’s for Christmas dinner or parties.
Table, floor and wall lighting shouldn’t be overlooked either. Layered lighting allows you to really control the mood of a room. If you want it to feel cosier and more intimate, just turn on the table and floor lamps. Want to highlight certain features of the room? A well-placed wall light will illuminate it perfectly.
Greenery
Summer might be a distant memory right now, but that doesn’t mean that you have to turn your back on greenery this festive season! Garlands made up of winter foliage look amazing draped over mantelpieces and doorways and make brilliant table decorations too. A well-made piece could last for many years, so it is worth investing in something truly special. If you don’t have the space for a lot of greenery, opt for small bunches in mismatched vases.
Deep, muted tones
Those deep, pared-back tones that have been in vogue for so long are showing no signs of falling out of fashion, so why not introduce some to your space this winter? Deep greens, burgundies and browns are all really easy to tie in with a wide range of decor styles but still pack a real punch. You could introduce these colours through your decorations and accessories. Or, if you have a few days to spare, paint the walls!
Texture
You want a space to have real character and depth at this time of year, and focusing on texture is a great way to do this. No detail is too small to overlook; a brushed metal finish on a light fitting can make just as much difference as a brand-new rug. Natural woods and fibres are really in right now, and again, can be found making up great investment pieces that will last for many years to come.
